About the event
The Easter Vigil, considered the "mother of all vigils", is the most solemn and greatest of Christian celebrations. It takes place on Holy Saturday night, marking the end of the Paschal Triduum and leading into Easter Sunday. The Easter Vigil is a night of watching and waiting for the coming of the Lord. The entire celebration must take place at night, beginning after nightfall and ending before dawn on Sunday.
The Easter Vigil is rich in symbolism and is structured in four parts:
The Service of Light (Lucenarium): The Vigil begins in darkness, and a new fire is blessed. From this fire, the Paschal Candle is lit, symbolizing Christ bringing light to the world. The Exsultet, a joyful proclamation, is sung, announcing the Resurrection.
The Liturgy of the Word: The Church meditates on the wonderful works God has done for his people throughout history. Several readings from the Old Testament…
